Aligned to: Create Meaningful Impact
Early in the year, it’s easy to feel like you need to do it all. Fundraisers, events, programs, new ideas—especially when you see what other schools are doing. There’s pressure to keep up… or even measure up. So boards take on more than they realistically have the capacity to manage.
And before long, things start to feel overwhelming.
Strong parent organizations aren’t built by doing everything. They’re built by doing the right things well—consistently. If you’re starting fresh or rebuilding, the goal isn’t to do more. It’s to build a solid foundation you can grow from over time.
Think in phases—not just this year.
Instead of trying to do everything, focus on the basics—which could include:
Building membership and engaging families
Establishing simple, reliable communication
Planning 1–2 fundraisers tied to 1–2 meaningful programs
The goal is consistency: show up, follow through, and communicate clearly—what you’ve done and what’s next. Over time, consistency builds credibility. Once credibility is established, it becomes much easier to attract volunteers, expand programming, and grow year over year.
What are the few things we can commit to doing well and consistently this year?
Are we building a strong foundation—or trying to do too much too soon?
What could we intentionally phase in over the next 2–3 years?
Start small, stay consistent, and build over time—that’s how strong organizations grow.
