Practical tools and guidance for leaders of school parent organizations—helping you organize your year, support volunteers, and lead with confidence.
Every year, parents step forward to lead in their schools — organizing volunteers, supporting teachers, and creating opportunities for students and families to thrive. But many leaders quickly discover that the role comes with more responsibility than guidance.
The Parent Leader Playbook was created to help parent leaders plan with confidence, lead with clarity, and build organizations that truly strengthen their school communities.
The Parent Leader Playbook supports leaders across many types of school parent organizations, including: PTA, PTO, Booster Clubs, School Foundations, Parent Councils, and Advisory Groups.
Parents often step into leadership roles in their school communities with excitement and good intentions. Too often, parent organizations end up starting from scratch each year — repeating the same challenges instead of building on what previous leaders learned. Many quickly encounter the same challenges:
Too many activities and not enough structure
Volunteer burnout and uneven participation
Unclear priorities for the year
Constant reacting instead of intentional planning
Leadership transitions that leave little guidance for the next team
The Parent Leader Playbook was created to help parent leaders move beyond reactive event planning toward more intentional leadership.
The Parent Leader Playbook is built around five key areas that help leaders stay focused, organized, and effective throughout the year.
